Nyantype Magazine Vol. 32

It seems that my issue of Megami Magazine for July might have been lost in the mail, but on the bright side, I have a copy of this month’s Nyantype Magazine. Its been a long time since my last Nyantype post so now’s a good chance to see if anything has changed. The July 2012 issue or volume 32 features Kuroyukihime from Accel World in her butterfly avatar form. The pin-up posters are shown below and as usual, any ecchi content is in the text links.

It seems that Nyantype continues to include a 3-page poster in their magazines. The first poster is once again of Kuroyukihime, but this time in her school uniform. Her right leg seems awkwardly disproportionate to the chair, but otherwise she looks pretty with the light streaming in from the windows behind her.

Fate got the reverse side of the poster in a pose typically found on dakimakura. I love seeing her without her hair tied up and the illustration itself has nice clean lines and good detail.

More of Fate is seen on the next poster but in her adult form. She looks fantastic in uniform with a freeze frame of her transformation in the background. I wish Bardiche was a bit more prominent though, it seems like an afterthought in this illustration.

Hyouka really didn’t impress me, but the animation looks nice, and this illustration really captures that. The only thing they really missed here was that water refracts light.

For some reason this one seems flat. Maybe it’s because of all the relatively straight lines or the lack of gradients. Otherwise it would’ve made a decent poster.

This poster was pretty funny. It appears that Nyaruko has angered an octopus after eating some octopus balls and hitting it on the head.

This is one of the better posters in this issue. The amount of detail in Strike Witches illustrations in both Nyantype and Megami is amazing.

I was rather disappointed with this Sankarea poster. While Sanka is supposed to be pale, she looks like one solid colour with little shading. The same goes for Mero.

A rather simple poster, but I’m sure Iori fans will like it.

Everything from the shading to colours and line art were done exceptionally well in this illustration of Gruier from Mouretsu Pirates.

I think a little too much emphasis was put on a certain body part in this Kore wa Zombie Desu ka poster.

The line art could use a bit of work, but otherwise this one looks good. Given what kind of anime Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai is, I was actually expecting this to be a bit more revealing.

This poster seems to be a mix of 2D and 3D graphics. It looks stunning to say the least.

Simple and clean, but still nice.

Amil and Rouna looks a bit chunky in this illustration. Other than that, I think it looks nice and I love the bread in the background.

As far as beach illustrations go, this one is above average with the shimmering water and the streams of light. The characters also look nicely drawn.

I wasn’t too fond about how dark this illustration was. While it does help to highlight Mikoto’s face (and drool), it does too much to hide everything else.

Your standard Queen’s Blade fanservice at work here.

One of the figures featured in the figure section of the magazine was of Menma from Ano Hana. The sculpt looks perfect and I’m tempted to order one.

One of the things that only started showing up in the magazine in the last few issues I reviewed was the mecha girl section. I’m glad to see that it’s still around because some of the designs look fantastic. This issue features Nyaruko equipped with some kind of heart-shaped equipment on her back.

The back cover contains an ad for Nazo no Kanojo X. Did anyone actually watch that show?

Included with the magazine was the 3rd edition of Nyantypes’s Nanoha illustration collection. As you can probably guess from the title, it contains all of the Nanoha illustrations featured in the magazine for the last year or so.

I would love to have B2 sized posters of these two lovely illustrations showing Fate and Nanoha in yukata. Their hair is also tied up in a matching style, which is a bonus.

The collection also has the other characters including Hayate and her gang.

My favourites were the StrikerS images which seemed much more colourful than the other illustrations and featured the girls in a variety of outfits.

The B2 sized poster included in this issue has Nanoha in a beautiful blue and lavender dress on the first side. The ribbons at the top and falling feathers really help to add to the image. I was really happy with this poster.

The reverse side has more Nanoha, but in an art style different from the anime. I’m actually not a fan of the style, but I have to admit that it’s a wonderful illustration with a very dynamic scene.

Comparing this volume to my previous Nyantype Magazines, there is definitely some improvement in illustration quality. Deformed and disproportionate characters aren’t immediately obvious, but they’re still there which means there’s room for improvement. This particular volume seemed to have a very heavy focus on Nanoha, probably in celebration of the 2nd movie coming out in theatres soon. My picks for the top three posters are the Mouretsu Pirates poster, Hyouka poster, and Strike Witches poster. The illustrations in the Nanoha collection were also nice and the large poster of Nanoha in her dress is definitely a keeper. For Nanoha fans, this is a must-get volume.
